At a a very young age David discovered a passion for music .Growing up in a musically talented family, David's cousins Tony, Fernando, Victor and Fernandinho were all members of the Portuguese band "Black Diamond" of the 80's. Idolizing his older cousins, David decided he would follow in their footsteps. After asking his parents for months to buy him a guitar, David's wish came true in December of 1985 when his parents bought him his first electric guitar. At the age of 9 and with alot of dreams and desires of being a musician David was hard at work hurt fingers and all he never gave up. Two years later is when David found his real true musical love.........singing. It was in November of 1987, in his cousin Tony's basement after Tony had to step away from rehearsal and asked David to "hum" some songs so the band could have a guide to practice to. To everyone's surprise ,even David's, he knew the lyrics to all the songs, and even sang them in key. From then on David began rehearsing with Black Diamond and in the summer of 1988 at the age of 12 he began performing live, singing the songs "Azar na Praia and "Cheira Lisboa". In 1991at the age of 15, after having performed and being a roadie for the band thru the years, his hard work and dedication paid off. David and 5 of his dearest childhood friends decided to unite and form the band "Diamond Crue" For the next 5 years "Diamond Crue" was busy doing shows and enjoying some of the best times of their youth as a brotherhood. In 1998 as some of the band members moved onto new endeavors, and the band matured so did their name changing from "Diamond Crue" to "Diamond". In 1999 David and Diamond had an experience of a lifetime being able to travel back to their parents roots and performing in the beautiful island of Terceira, Acores In February of 2001, David again reached a musical high having been able to perform with his childhood idol Roberto Leal. A year later in May of 2002 he was also given the opportunity to perform with another childhood idol Marco Paulo. This time sharing the stage as his male back-up vocalist. After 12 years of history with Diamond, a decade of music and brotherhood came to an end when some members moved on to pursue new challenges in life. Putting an era to rest, the new and highly energetic band known as "Banda Internacional" was born. Although now fronting a new band David still brings an energetic presence to any stage, this time accompanied by enough Drums, Bass, Guitars, Keys, Trumpets, Saxaphones and Percussion to make you get off your seats and dance. David DeMelo and "Banda Internacional" will continue to maintain the Portuguese heritage and culture by entertaining immigrants and their families.
